Te Hiku Rangatahi Noho Taiao
June 28, 2018 @ 2:00 pm - June 30, 2018 @ 1:00 pm
Learn and be inspired from our own Indigenous Cultural Lens of innovative thinkers and engagement in Pūtaiao, Science, Taiao and Environmental Education
TE PŪTAKE (PURPOSE)
The purpose of this marae based noho is to bring Te Hiku rangatahi together providing a space for whakawhanaungatanga & encourage kaitiakitanga roles in our Te Hiku communities. Rangatahi who have an interest science, environmental sustainability, maths and technology will get to carry out some environmental action whilst learning about number of other environmental kaupapa.
The noho will include a range of outdoor hands-on learning activities such as riparian planting, pest plant management, nursery propagation/ mahi, stream catchment investigation /monitoring / assessment & rongoā Māori. Providing genuine experiential learning and engagement in & for our local environments as a ‘living laboratory’ Pūtaiao approach. This is where science concepts are already embedded in matauranga Māori, te reo me ōna tikanga, making education more meaningful, to help rangatahi Māori reclaim science in Te Hiku
We hope to familiarise them with environmental initiatives that Te Hiku are promoting, lift their understanding of kaitiakitanga, and show them how they might be able to contribute to their iwi and hapu in the future. We are hoping to increase the number of our young people pursuing careers in the sciences, environmental sustainability, technology and business.
